The famous French author Dominique Lapierre wrote a book on the city of Kolkata – addressed the city as “The City of Joy”. A huge number of talents were born also in this city like Rabindranath Tagore, Satyajit Ray, Swami Vivekananda, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, Michael Madhusudan Dutta etc. We must agree that in terms of culture and heritage, Kolkata has always been pioneer and still the legacy continues.
As per the statistical report of the 2016, the population of Kolkata was more than 5 million. The metropolitan city of Kolkata displays a flawless picture of cutting edge India alongside customary workmanship and society. The city which has seen numerous good and bad times previously, still exhibits a genuine soul of Bengali culture.
But in terms of job industry, Kolkata is lagging far behind than various other cities of India. It was not like that Kolkata was lagging for talents, this point is quite opposite. Kolkata is full of talents and prospective candidates to match with various job industries. But these talents have nothing to do with the existing job industries in Kolkata. They are unable to find satisfied jobs with standard payment.

The companies of Kolkata usually offer such a below standard payment, which in turn compel the talented young generation to relocate to specific places like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Noida, Gurgaon etc. where they can get handsome package, good working environment, standard lifestyle and other benefits as well.
It is very sad that Kolkata’s major talents are relocating in other cities which are the major hubs of India. As indicated by overviews, significant commercial ventures including IT, telecom, designing, Banking and finance take in crowds of crisp ability from the Bengal capital every year. The specialty that urban centre points like Noida, Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and so forth have made for themselves in the occupation business sector is the significant fascination for employment seekers from Kolkata. The salary difference amongst Kolkata and Bengaluru is as much as 40%, attracting work seekers to move to the Silicon City. Additionally with top class professionals searching for ‘designation development’, national levels, long term professional view they are more than willing to move to Delhi and Bengaluru.
Another issue which professionals of Kolkata are facing for a couple of years is that, there are very little scopes for upgrading designation development after a certain level of experience. Especially, regarding the IT industries, Advertising and Printing industries, Designing and Animation industries, there is no scope for a person after acquiring 10 – 15 years of experience in the related field. On the other hand, for same type of industries, so many scopes are available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Noida, Hyderabad and Pune.
So, there are only two ways are open for the job searchers – one is relocating to other states where related jobs are available, and the other is doing job as Freelancer. Because, apart from 3-4 big giants, most of the companies in Kolkata in the field of Advertising, Marketing, Printing, Information Technology, Animation are unable to pay experienced professionals who have at least 15-20 years of experience in the relative field.

Let me clear you the pathetic situation of Kolkata job industry with an example. Bitanu Sarkar(Name changed for specific reason) works in ‘Graphic Design’ industry in Kolkata, and he has been working in the industry for 20 years. He is very much expert in ‘Logo Designing’ and ‘Character Illustration’. But, the fact is that when he wants to change for improvement of salary, most of the companies offer him with a maximum package of Rs.14,000 to Rs.18,000 per month. He is not in a position to relocate to other state because his mother is a Cancer patient, and some other family matters are there. So, he is somehow doing job in TechnoDesign (Name changed for specific reason). If he could relocate himself to Bengaluru, he could have got at least Rs.45,000 – Rs.50,000 per month matching to his expertise, and not only that he could achieve a standard lifestyle and much more benefits. Rs.14,000 to Rs.18,000 is the highest salary range in most of the companies in Kolkata for ‘Graphic Designer’ designation. The companies have nothing to do with experience, be it a 7 years or 10 years or 15 years or 20 years. Isn’t it ridiculous?
This ridiculous situation has been created for years. The political situation in Bengal is mostly responsible for that. The Left Front has ruled in Bengal for 34 years. Although they have initiated IT industry but it is no match with the Silicon City. Now the TMC rules the Bengal. In their 5 years they have done nothing significant as far as industry is concerned; instead they compelled the big giant Infosys to cancel their planning to build an IT Hub in Rajarhat, Kolkata. In fact, the job industry in Kolkata is in wretched condition.
So young and experienced professional, should make a plan how they can build up their career. One thing they should keep in mind that their home town has nothing to offer them, and the policy of the political parties are covered by political interest and vested interest only.
