On one hand, cheap petroleum products will be available with this step, on the other hand, there will also be a solution to the disposal of plastic waste. A team of 8 youths has started the work of making bio petrol and diesel from plastic waste at this plant. The team is headed by Ashutosh Mangalam, a student of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI Delhi). He has been accompanied by Shivani, Sumit Kumar, Aman Kumar, Mohammad Hassan, etc. He, along with his colleagues, had trialed this technology in 2019 and patented it in 2020 after getting success.
Around 150-liter diesel or 130-liter petrol is prepared from 200 kg plastic waste in this factory every day. This plastic waste is converted into Butane first, and then Butane is converted into Isooctane. This Isooctane is then converted to diesel or petrol with different temperatures and pressure. Diesel is prepared at 400o Celsius and petrol is prepared at 800o Celsius. The total time is required to produce petrol or diesel is 8 hours. The raw materials are collected from the Municipal Corporation of Bihar at the rate of Rs.6 per kilogram, and the unit sells petrol or diesel for Rs.70 per liter.
Parimal Kumar Sinha, General Manager, District Industries Center, Muzaffarpur, told that the factory has been opened under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). Ashutosh Mangalam, Head of the Team, said that the common people will also be benefited from this. The fuel that will be prepared from plastic waste will be beneficial for the environment.
