Sri Aurobindo, born on August 15, 1872, in Calcutta, was a ‘man of the era’ whom people will remember for decades. He said that the purpose of his life is to establish a kingdom of divine love on earth.

The name of his father was Krishna Dhun Ghosh. He was an assistant surgeon of Rangpur of un-divided Bengal. His father wanted his son to grow up in the Western culture. So he sent his son Aurobindo to England at the age of seven. Aurobindo successfully completed his education in England and attended the Indian Civil Service examination at the behest of his father but failed the equestrian test and returned to India in 1893.

By coming here in India, he got knowledge of Indian languages. After reading it, he felt that the immense wealth of spiritual knowledge which is present in Indian ancient texts, Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata is nowhere else.

He was imprisoned for one year due to revolutionary activities during this time. He experienced an invisible power of Lord Krishna during the jail itself. After his release from the prison, he moved to Pondicherry where he spent much of his life in various types of spiritual practice.

He also acknowledged Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and was overwhelmed by them. But, the direction of his spiritual practice was focused on human consciousness. He wanted to take human consciousness to a specific level of awakening through the physical, mental, neurological process.
