Virginia Thrasher was a ‘surprise winner’ as she was not counted to be a medal winner in spite of being the NCAA champion from West Virginia. The NCAA national champion of 19 years stepped into the medal event of 2016 Rio Olympic Games and won the women’s 10 meter Air Rifle gold.

China’s Yi Siling settled for bronze. Du already won a gold decoration at the in the Athens Olympics in the year 2004. According to the statements of sports-reference.com, this is the fifth time in history that the United States has won the first gold award at the Olympics with respective years like 1896, 1904, 1924, 1952, 1956, 1984 and 2000 being the past events.

So, it is an event to feel proud for the Americans that Virginia Thrasher has written her name in golden words as the first gold winning shooter in 10m Air Rifle. We pay our heartiest congratulations to Virginia Thrasher.
